What I Wish I'd Known Before University

Looking back, there are many things I wish someone had told me before I started university. At eighteen, I believed that being a good student was simply about studying hard, but I quickly discovered that university life required far more than academic effort alone.

During my first semester, I was often told by my professors that time management would determine my success more than raw intelligence ever could. Unfortunately, I ignored this advice, and as a result, I frequently found myself overwhelmed by deadlines that had crept up on me unexpectedly.

If I had learned to manage my time properly from the very beginning, I would have avoided countless sleepless nights before exams. I also wish I had understood that asking for help is not a sign of weakness, but rather a genuine skill that successful people rely on constantly.

Another lesson, which took me far too long to learn, was that building genuine relationships matters just as much as achieving good grades. Many opportunities that came my way later on were, in fact, offered to me by people I had met during those university years.

If you are about to start university, remember that mistakes are an unavoidable part of growth. Had I embraced that idea sooner, my journey would undoubtedly have been far less stressful.
